i miss college

i miss the energy on campus at the beginning of fall semester.

i miss reading the police beat and people's ridiculous letters in the daily universe.

i miss all those glorious naps i took at the back of the room in my post lunch classes. well, really all my classes.

i miss laughing with my clothing construction friends.

i miss meeting up for lunch and people watching in the wilk.

i miss walking around on campus and running into people. or seeing people i know awkwardly and pretending i didn't see them. (wait, what? i never did that...)

i miss how everyday was a little bit different and the excitement that comes from that.

i miss making fun of all the byusa people but thoroughly enjoying it when they had free food outside the wilk.

i miss buying school supplies. i think i miss this the most. especially since i actually have money to buy school supplies now.

i miss the spirit that is at byu. you are always with people that believe what you do, studying the gospel and there are opportunities to have your testimony strengthened everyday.

but let me tell you what i don't miss: student parking, studying for tests, the stress of not studying for tests, writing papers, procrastinating everything, never ending homework, having literally no money, trying to balance school/work/social life, and that constant feeling that there is always something that you should be working on for school.

i've only been gone for a month, but should i just move back to provo?

graduation

so...i graduated. a month ago - i'm a little behind in blogging about the events of my life.
to my left is my old roommate, sarah, from my sophomore year. we got to have a precious little reunion.
even the grandparents came.
brooke and david threw me an awesome bbq with deliciously amazing food.
family and friends came.
isn't it irritating that i am wearing a turtleneck sweater at the end of april at a bbq? it is taking forever for summer to arrive in utah. it's supes annoying.

so that was graduation. it was a great day and i am so thankful that i am surrounded by family and friends that are so supportive.

stay tuned for posts about my birthday and new york (which was awesome, by the way).

just in case you were curious

i am going to tell you about the greatest moment in my college career. you're welcome.

it was fall of 2008, the first semester of my senior year. my "senior year" that lasted a year and a half, but that's neither here nor there. anyway, i was in a clothing construction class and my professor, the all knowing dr. burnham, was explaining the pros and cons of some hemming methods for the project we were working on. she was talking about a certain hem (i am pretty sure it was the blind hem) and she made the following statement:

"this is a seductive hem. it says 'do me, i'm easy.'"

holding in my laughter after she made that comment has to be one of the most difficult things i have ever had to do, especially as i looked around the room to find that either no one got it, or they were all just really good at keeping straight faces. the context just made it even better because it was in a room full of naive, byu, home and family living major squares. and i am positive that she did not intend for her comment to be taken the way it definitely sounded. or maybe i am just a little perverted, but that is also neither here nor there.

i quickly wrote down her quote so that i could treasure it for the rest of my life. i then proceeded to tell everyone that i came in contact with about it for the next several days, perhaps months.

thank you dr. burnham - not only have you given me a great education, but you have also provided me with the greatest moment of my college career. maybe even my life.

look at what i got...

it's official, i am a college graduate. now i'm just waiting for the wallet size they send you so when people say "oh please paige, you did not graduate from college nor is there such a major as home and family living." i can whip my mini-diploma out of my wallet and prove them wrong. isn't that just a little ridiculous? do i really need a mini-diploma to carry around with me? i don't think so. and i took this picture on gordon's last night with us, our apartment has kind of fallen apart since he left us.

and guess what else? today is just pudge's second birthday/our blogiversary! happy birthday pudge, it's been...real.

i am knee deep in finals.

more details of my "last times" to come. once these blessed finals are over and i have (hopefully) figured out my life.

until then, i bid you adieu.

back to reality

back to school, back to busy-ness, back to guilt about not doing readings for classes...

byu is back in session and i don't quite know how i feel about it. i like the beginning of the school year because of all the freshness and who doesn't love school supplies shopping? or any kind of shopping for that matter. i was excited for school to start until i actually went to class yesterday...that kind of changed things. i hate that anxiety feeling when your professor (specifically dr. burnham) is going over the syllabus and telling you all the hard things you're going to have to do during the semester. granted i am only taking 3 classes, but i still feel a little anxious.

when i start to dwell on this scary feeling i think about all of the really awesome things about this semester:
-this is my last semester and i am graduating in december
-i have a ton of family in utah now: my little brother nash, cousin jesse, cousin kenzi and her new husband matt, and of course the milnes and thomases up in draper
-i only have three classes which are patternmaking (a little intense, and by a little i mean a lot), a cooking class, and survey of world religions.
-i only have to write one paper all semester
-my apartment is really cute
-i have a sweet job

and the list really could go on and on.

since this is my last semester at byu, i want to do al those byu things that i thought were really lame and have a bunch of school spirit for once. i had intentions of buying an all-sports pass, until i found out that they are $140. i guess i won't care about your sports, byu. i want to go to the homecoming parade, maybe that blue foam thing...i don't know.

my fellow byu people, what are those special byu things that i need to do before i graduate? any suggestions?

you know what brigham young university?

i am a little upset with you.

next time you decide to close an entire y lot (especially the y lot i park in everyday) could you give me a little notice? so i don't have to search for another y lot and park even farther away from my building and be late for work, since i work for you? i would really appreciate it.

i would also really appreciate it if you built a parking garage for students. i know the concept of doing something for students instead of faculty and alumni is mind blowing, but i think we would all benefit from it. thanks.

overwhelmed.

i am overwhelmed. school started two weeks ago and i don't think i have ever been so busy in my life.

why do we do this to ourselves? why do we take on more than we can handle? i am taking 15 credit hours this semester and working 20 hours a week. everyone else takes that many credits and works just as much, if not more, so why am i complaining? i really have no good reason, i just am not used to being this busy. i try to talk to my parents about this and then my dad gives me his standard lecture..."i went to byu and took 18 credits hours and worked full-time and had a wife and child and graduated at the top of my class. so get over it, sister." i just roll my eyes and mumble something under my breath like "yeah, and that was 30 years ago" and then he won't believe that it is harder now. well it is. i just feel like if i am not in class, i am in the sewing lab or at work. if i am not in any of those places i am doing homework in my bedroom or asleep. how am i supposed to have friends? am i just supposed to throw away the funnest years of my life for school? i don't think so. but then i have to remind myself that i am here to go to school and get an education so i can go live in the real world (which is going to happen way too soon). what am i to do? quit my job? i would love to. too bad i am not a trust fund child and would have to live on the streets. the real solution is to just find myself a sugar daddy. i can probably "handle" all of this, but i don't think i will be able to do any of these things nearly as well as i could if i had enough time to spend on them.

can someone please feel sorry for me?
