am i missing something?

i was just driving home and heard a song from muse come on the radio. to be honest, i don't get what all the hubbup is about.

everyone - well, maybe not everyone - is always talking about how awesome muse is and i feel like i am the only person that doesn't really care for their music. i'll admit that i haven't listened to them all that much and the songs that i have heard are just their most popular ones that are on the radio or in movies or whatever. from what i've heard of them, i don't really have all that much desire to hear more. i feel like they are kind of gay/cheesy and full of power ballads. and the fact that stephenie meyer was obsessed with muse while she wrote the twilight series doesn't really help their case either. and i can't believe that i just found a musewiki website via google.

really? is it just me? am i missing something?

p.s. my intention with this post is not to offend any muse lovers. all the power to you.

You know, I'm completely cool with people not loving Muse. Music preference is about as subjective a topic as you can ever come across. What I find a load of garbage is the argument that Muse is nothing more than a Radiohead wannabe. That's almost like saying Paramore is a ripoff of Evanescence because they're both female vocalists that sing rock-ish music. About the only thing Muse and Radiohead have in common are their lead singers both sing in a high falsetto and they're both British. It's like getting mad at the grapefruit for ripping off the orange. They're both in the same family, but taste very different and look different if you're familiar with the two.

Yes, if you compare early Muse to early '90s Radiohead, they sound a little more similar, but Radiohead has been becoming more and more and experimental electronic beat ever since Hail to the Thief. Muse is pop/rock and more energetic and bassline driven than Radiohead.

I love both Muse and Radiohead. They are two of my very favorite bands, but anybody that thinks Muse is just a ripoff of Radiohead doesn't have much place commenting about their styles.

If you want a clear juxtaposition of their styles, why don't you listen to Invincible by Muse and Kid A by Radiohead. Pay special attention to the face melting guitar solo at the end of Invincible.
